About the Play:
How do relationships evolve, get stronger, and fall apart over time? Craig Pospisil’s Months on End is a journey through the angst and humor of marriage, divorce, and death as the lives of eight young adults intertwine over the course of a year. Each of the play’s 12 scenes represents one month from January through to December, a sort of theatrical time lapse during which the characters mature, grow closer, grow apart, and figure out what really matters in their lives.
The play is a romantic comedy, a sitcom, and a domestic drama in one. Readers and audiences will easily recognize, and perhaps relate to, the very human-feeling characters: there's the embittered Elaine, the hapless Walter, and the aloof Heidi, all gravitating around Ben and Phoebe, the engaged couple who aren’t quite yet at peace with the idea of spending the rest of their lives with each other (and each others’ oddities). Months on End is ultimately about a group of people on the verge of something…they’re just not quite sure what.
You can think of Months on End as a kind of hybrid. It is a full-length play, but it is set up like a series of one-acts. It's a variety of mostly short, mostly comic sketches, built around the lives of a group of friends and relatives. Weddings and divorces, graduations and deaths, and missing Beatles collectables. Being a parent and being a friend.
Each sketch features a different combination of the actors, usually two to three per sketch, so each actor is provided with a significant part. At the same time, each actor participates in between 2-4 sketches, so no one is being overburdened with a "lengthy" role.
Audition Info:
This play will be directed and cast by Greg Marsanskis. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script (audition sides included at the bottom of this page). If you have any questions, feel free to email Greg at gmarsanskis@gmail.com.
The director would like to have a few read-throughs in early August, with discussions about the characters and their relationships, and then send everyone off to learn their lines before resuming the rehearsal process in earnest in early September. This way you won't be burdened with a lot of summer rehearsals and the director can take a role in "The Playboy of the Western World". We all win!
There will be a public table reading of the play on Wednesday, July 24th, from 7:00-9:00pm. All are welcome, regardless of intent to audition.
Character Breakdown:
PHOEBE (age 30s to early 40s) - Ben's fiancé. In 4 sketches.
HEIDI (age 20s) - Phoebe's younger sister. In 3 sketches.
GWEN (age 50s to 60s) - Phoebe's mother. In 2 sketches.
CHRIS (age 50s to 60s) - Phoebe's father. In 2 sketches.
ELAINE (age 30s to early 40s) - Friend of Phoebe's. In 4 sketches.
BEN (age 30s to early 40s) - Phoebe's fiancé. In 5 sketches.
WALTER (age 30s to early 40s) - Starting a new relationship with Elaine. In 3 sketches.
NICK (age 30s to early 40s) - Walter's brother. In 2 sketches.
TONY (age 20s to 30s) - Friend of Nick's. In 2 sketches.
PAIGE (age 20s to 30s) - Nick's girlfriend. In 2 sketches.
