Big Fish will be making a big splash at Belfast Maskers this summer!  With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and the book by John August, Big Fish – Small Cast Edition is based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton.  The small cast edition calls for 12–15 cast members to tell the larger-than-life stories of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to the fullest.  His son, Will, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales.  With characters ranging from mermaids to witches to giants, we are looking for a small, talented ensemble to play a variety of roles – all of which demand strong singing skills.  The script calls for 6 adult male roles, 5–7 adult female roles, and 1 role for a young boy.

Auditions will be held Tuesday, May 9th from 5:00 PM–8:00 PM and Saturday, May 13th from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM.  If needed, callbacks will be held on the afternoon of Sunday, May 14th. Auditionees need to come prepared to sing a Broadway-style song.  Please bring a recorded accompaniment track on your personal device; a blue-tooth speaker will be provided to amplify the track.  Reading and group movement will follow the individual singing auditions.  Production dates are July 27–30 and August 3–6.  For more information, contact director Kim Murphy at kmusicorama@gmail.com.

 -- CHARACTER BREAKDOWN --

Lead Roles:

EDWARD BLOOM (approx. age 40+) - The main character who lives large, tells grand tales, and meets interesting people throughout his life. Must be a versatile actor as this person plays himself as a teenager, as a young man in love, and also as an older father who is nearing his death and struggling with his relationship with his son, Will. A strong high baritone voice, with many solos and duets.

SANDRA BLOOM (approx. age 30-40) - Edward’s wife and Will’s mother. She must be a solid actress who also plays younger versions of herself. A strong mezzo-soprano voice with solos, duets and trios.

WILL BLOOM (age 20-30) - The grown son of Edward and Sandra. He is about to become a father himself and is questioning the truth behind the many tales that he has heard from his father his whole life. A strong tenor voice who sings solos and duets.

Supporting Lead Roles:

JOSEPHINE BLOOM (age 20-30) - The wife of Will, and expecting their first son. She has a mezzo-soprano voice with limited solos; mostly ensemble singing.

THE WITCH (age 18+) - A strong mezzo-soprano voice with a strong belt. Sings a significant solo at the beginning of the show. This character may also play other ensemble roles.

KARL THE GIANT (age 18+) - A tall actor (or one who is able to walk on painter stilts). Bass singer who sings mostly ensemble parts.

AMOS CALLOWAY (age 18+) - Usually played by a shorter actor. Owner of the circus.  Baritone voice; has a significant solo and ensemble singing (and...is a werewolf!).

JENNY HILL (age 18-40) - A love interest from earlier years. She is a mezzo-soprano who has short solos. She also plays an older version of herself near the end of the show.
