One Act Script Submissions

Calling all Maine playwrights! Belfast Maskers are proud to celebrate the talented writers of Maine by hosting our second annual Maine Playwrights One Act Festival, to be produced June 4-14, 2026. The first weekend's performances will be cabaret-style seating with wine, cheese, soft drinks, and more. The following weekend will be presented with normal theater seating. A total of 4 One Acts will be chosen for production.

To submit a One Act play for consideration, please send a blind (without your name) PDF version of your script to info@belfastmaskers.com. Title your email “2026 Maine Playwrights One Act Festival Submission.” Only one script submission will be considered per playwright, the play must require no more than 5 actors, and the runtime of the play must be no longer than 35 minutes.

In the body of your email, please include the following:

  • Your name and pronouns. Reminder: your name should not appear anywhere on the submitted PDF

  • Your town of residence.

  • The production, staged reading, and/or workshop history of the play, if applicable; if not, an acknowledgement that it is a new and original play. This will not affect your likelihood of being chosen.

  • The estimated running time of the play. Reminder: this should be no longer than 35 minutes.
  • The cast breakdown and flexibility if applicable (i.e. 2 M, 2 F, 1 M/F). Reminder: the play must require no more than 5 actors.

The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2026.

The writers of the four chosen plays will receive $150 in royalties and a comp ticket to a performance with normal theater seating. If the cabaret-style seating weekend is preferred, the value of a normal theater seating ticket will be comped and only the difference will be due.
