Ibsen's Three Leading Ladies Meet in Prison in the Not-so-distant Future

Cost:

$25.00 per person

Duration:

1h 15min

A new play by Suzanne Ramczyk.

In our ongoing mission to present “re-imaginations” of the theater classics, we have chosen three major plays by Henrik Ibsen as our vehicle to address contemporary, relevant social issues. Set sometime in our not-so-distant future, Ibsen’s three leading ladies, Hedda Gabler, (Hedda Gabler) Nora, (A Doll’s House) and Mrs. Alving (Ghosts), have been imprisoned for several decades. They have been incarcerated for crimes against society that specifically implicate women.  In this world of “speculative fiction,” the three women must re-encounter their pasts in order to make a difficult existential decision. The play, though set primarily in imaginary, contemporary times, relies on flashbacks, which draw on scenes from Ibsen’s originals. Through the telling of their stories, the three women learn not only to open up and share their, often, painful histories, but also learn compassion, and to laugh in their harsh environment. The cast features Beverly Mann (Nora Helmer), Christine West (Mrs. Alving), Lisa Stathoplos (Hedda Gabler), Cory Burns (Torvald Helmer, Pastor Manders and Judge Brack) and Nate Marx (George Tesman and Oswald Alving). Artistic Director Suzanne Ramczyk will direct.

Performances are at the Basil Burwell Theatre, 17 Court St., Belfast, at 7:00 on October 17, 18, 24, and 25, and at 2:00 on October 19 and 26. The running time is 75 minutes without an intermission. All tickets are $25.00
