PERFORMANCE DATES:

An Overview:
Young prince Pippin searches for happiness and fulfillment in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power.
This will be a dynamic and somewhat minimalist musical where we construct Pippin's magical world and experience his quest for meaning together. The music and libretto are based on the revival version of the material.
Director: Erik Perkins, Music Director: David Delano
What to Expect:
For questions, please contact the director, Erik Perkins, at erik.perkins@belfastmaskers.com.
Vocals
Auditioners will prepare 32 bars of a song and provide sheet music for the pianist (M.D. David Delano). Please note that music should be provided in a score format, not as a "lead sheet". Please reach out to David at davidcdelanomusic@gmail.com with any questions about acceptable format.
If you cannot, or do not wish to, provide your own sheet music, please choose from one of these audition pieces:
Magic to Do (pdf)
Corner of the Sky (pdf)
Ordinary Woman (pdf)
Acting
Auditioners must present one joke, anecdote, poem, or monologue from memory, 2 minutes or less. You will then be asked to perform a trick or demonstrate a talent of choice. Examples include: juggling, tumbling*, contortion, solo dance, illusion, sleight-of-hand, puppetry, balancing, or clowning.
*Mats will not be provided, any stunts must be comfortably and safely performed on the bare stage.
Dance
Following individual vocal and acting auditions, auditioners will be instructed by choreographer Abby Boucher in a short dance routine and perform it together in small groups. Dance requirements for this show are standard and varying levels of ability are welcomed. Come dressed ready to move.
Character Breakdown:
Note: the ages listed are character ages, not actor ages.
LEADING PLAYER (any adult age, any gender) - The charming and manipulative ring leader who guides Pippin and us through the story. An excellent dancer and master of ceremonies. Please note that while we will consider any gender the performer must be able to sing the songs in the keys they are written. No transposing or octave shifts will be done for this role. Vocal range: Db3-Ab4.
PIPPIN (18-21, male) - Our story's young and somewhat lost protagonist. We follow the story through Vocal range: G2-Ab4.
CHARLES (50s, male) - Pippin's demanding father and King of the Holy Roman Empire. Vocal range: G2-E4.
FASTRADA (mid 30s-40s, female) - Pippin's conniving stepmother. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son. Vocal range: A3-F5.
BERTHE (67, female) - Pippin's saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. Vocal range: C3-A4.
CATHERINE (mid 20s-30s) - A beautiful widow and loving mother. Vocal range: C3-A4.
THEO (6-10, male) - Catherine's son. Please note that 6-10 male describes the character, not necessarily the performer. Pippin involves acting in a production featuring simulated violence, war imagery, and sexual innuendo, as the show explores mature, existential themes that are not recommended for young children. Vocal range: C3-A4.
ENSEMBLE (all ages, any gender) - Pippin's half-brother Lewis, Charlemagne's Army, Monks, Nobility, Peasants, The Players.
