A Note From the Artistic Director

This is an exciting time of year for the Belfast Maskers! Not only do we have a hilarious, family-oriented show that opens on December 2nd, but we are thrilled to announce a terrific lineup of plays for the 2023 season!

We always want to present a variety of plays each year, and this season has just that. Some of the shows will make you think and reflect, some will make you laugh out loud, some will warm your heart and make you want to sing along.

And, don’t forget - If you haven’t bought your tickets for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever yet, you’ll want to do so right now, before they are all sold out.

BELFAST MASKERS
2023 SEASON
March 9-19
"A Doll’s House Part 2" by Lucas Hnath

At the end of Ibsen’s classic "A Doll’s House", Dora Helmer leaves her home, her husband and children, with a slamming of the door. Nominated for 8 Tony Awards in 2017, Hnath’s play picks up fifteen years later with a knock at the same door. It is Nora, and she has returned with an urgent request. What will her sudden return mean to those she left behind? You don’t need to know Ibsen’s play to enjoy this multiple award-winning sequel. Directed by Bill Burford.

May 25-June 4
"Wonder of the World" by David Lindsay-Abaire

It’s a wild ride over Niagara Falls in a barrel of laughs as our heroine, Cass, embarks on a journey of self discovery that has her crossing paths with a blithely suicidal alcoholic, a lonely tour-boat captain, a pair of bickering private detectives and a strange caper involving a gargantuan jar of peanut butter. A most assuredly hilarious comedy of marital discord run amok! Directed by Erik Perkins.

July 27– August 6
"Big Fish" by Andrew Lippa (music and lyrics)
and John August (book)

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, "Big Fish" tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest…and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him—most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. Overflowing with heart and humor, "Big Fish" is an extraordinary musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre—for an experience that’s richer, funnier and bigger than life itself. Directed by Kim Murphy, who brought you the 2022 wildly successful "Little Shop of Horrors."

September 1 & 2, October 6 & 7
A Festival of One Act Plays

One Act plays presented Cabaret Style, with food and drink served to your table. Directed by Greg Marsanskis and other familiar Maskers.

December 8-17
"The Storm in the Barn" adapted by Eric Cobl,
from the graphic novel by Matt Phelan

In 1937 Kansas, 11 year-old Jack Clark and his family face many challenges. This uniquely American fable will warm your heart! This play features live, haunting music, puppetry and special effects to ask: When everyone says you’re too small to be the hero of any story, where do you find the strength to save your family...and the world? Directed by Meg Nickerson.

Tickets are on sale now for the final show of 2022, the delightful family comedy, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever".
