Set in Naples, Scapino! by Jim Dale and Frank Dunlop is a zany modern day farce inspired by Moliere’s 1671 comedy Les Fourberies de Scapin. The play’s lead, Scapino, is the servant who is smarter than his master. A quick-thinker, fast talker, and trickster, he intervenes (despite his master’s plans) to bring two pairs of young lovers together. “The good Lord has blessed me with quite a genius for clever ideas and inspired inventions.” boasts Scapino.
This full-length farce in the style of Commedia dell’arte is a fun-filled, outrageous ride, full of slapstick and fast-paced humor; including tall tales, bad impersonations, ridiculous chase scenes, disgruntled waiters, lovable panhandlers, melodic macaroni, and misbehaving sausages.
As an opportunity to become further acquainted with the script, a public table reading will be held at the theater on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 6:00-8:00pm. All are welcome to watch or participate, regardless of intent to audition.
Audition Info:
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Please bring a recent photo (any size close-up picture or headshot) and be prepared to sing at least 2 stanzas of a ballad or folk song a cappella.
Looking for a cast of 10 men and 4 women ages high school - 70s. Gender-flexible casting is an option for many roles. All roles sing, with one soloist needed. The ability to play guitar, accordion or tin whistle is an asset.

Character Breakdown:
OTTAVIO (age 18-24) - Son of the wealthy merchant, Argante.
SYLVESTRO (age 30s-40s) - Ottavio’s guardian.
SCAPINO (age 30s-40s) - Leandro’s guardian.
GIACINTA (age 16-24) - In love with Ottavio.
ARGANTE (age 50s-60s) - Father of Ottavio.
GERONTE (age 50s-60s) - Father of Leandro.
LEANDRO (age 18-24) - Friend of Ottavio, son of Geronte.
CARLO (age 30s-50s) - A bum.
ZERBINETTA (age 16-24) - A gypsy.
Other roles:
Giacinta's NURSE (age 50s-70s)
HEADWAITER (age 18+)
Two HARASSED WAITERS (age 18+), one vocal soloist.
WAITRESS (age 30s-50s), a dancer.
